P90X-8 Chest Back AbX

Crappy nights sleep had me less than perky this morning.   I didn’t lose any ground, but I wasn’t up for gaining any either.   I did work on the negatives for a few items, but for the most part it just kicked my butt.   At least I got through AbX OK.

P90X-7 Xstretch

Actually it’s day 6, but the schedule would be day 7.    Hooked up with Jim n Syndie… oh man, after doing legs for the first time in a few weeks my glutes were needing this!   As were a few other muscles.   Really good to knock this out tonight and definitely feel better for doing it.

P90X-5 Legs Back AbX

It wasn’t quite as chilly as it has been which was nice, but it wasn’t so warm I was comfy.    The warmup started out hard, but as warmups do they got the stiffness worked out and I was ready to hit the real work when it was done.  This is good ’cause this routine always always always beats my ass.  Even when it goes well, it’s still a beat down.  Fortunately it didn’t go too badly.  (lol… I say that now, we’ll see how stiff I am tomorrow)!   AbX went well and I managed 25 of everything.  I still haven’t made the jump back to doing 30 reps of anything or doing the weighted Mason twists, but maybe soon.   :)

P90X-3 Shoulders Arms AbX

Along with a good chunk of the country it was pretty chilly out in the garage this morning.  I had a small space heater pointed toward my workout spot.   It was just enough to take the edge off the chill off the immediate area and made it tolerable.  I also took care not to pretend I could pick up where I left off and kept the weight sensible.   Despite the reserved weights I still got plenty of work by reminding myself to take advantage of the negatives for many sets and extend the effort for each repetition.   Syndie also paid attention to this and our small consensus is that by doing the negatives we got plenty of work out of today.  Fortunately AbX went well for me.   Good workout overall.

P90X-1 chest back AbX (again)

So, we’ve started again.   Funny (or not) how getting away from something for just a couple weeks or so will let you know it.   Definitely felt "worked out" by the end.  Good first day back at it.

A walk on the AT

Yeah!!!

Yeah!!!

So this last weekend I got out of town for a couple days to do a little hiking on the Appalachian Trail.   The times above are "estimated" and cumulative for three different days of walking.  Done with a 40 lb pack.  Not record times but I still beat the youngsters all to hell and one of them dubbed me "The Robot" because I just didn’t stop.

It was excellent weather for hiking in the mid 50s, clear and dry.   Of course it was hilly, but what made it a bit tougher was all of the newly fallen leaves which made footing dicey, especially going downhill.   So, go figure I’d turn my ankle on a flattish section.   It wasn’t a full on horrible twist, but still, it was bothersome for the rest of that day.   Happily, it felt pretty good in the morning.

Campfires were mandatory… thus I cut a lot of firewood!  :D     It was hard, but it was worth it.  :D   Good time, and good company.

Cool Friday

Got out of the office early. I’m fortunate I can flex my hours and had already pre-worked the hour I was trimming from today. There was a light breeze out and it was a little cooler than it has been lately so I put on a long sleeve jersey. Glad I did. It was like Goldilocks… juuuust right. This was another one of those pretty good performance rides that came together cumulatively, but with no super outstanding points either. No complaints.  Oh, and a useless tidbit to day made October the highest mileage month for me this year.   :D

Just after the rain

Yesterday turned into a bust. I was just about to hop on my bike and my poor wife called with some serious issues. I slung my bike back in my truck and jetted home to take care of the important stuff. She’s OK now and I was able to get a ride in today. A quick storm front was just at the tail end when I got on my bike to head out for my roll, so the roads were a bit wet still. No lightening or anything involved with the front and the temps were warm so there was nothing to inhibit me from heading out.   Considering all the conditions for any given section I feel good that overall I had good solid times throughout the ride.  I did pull a second best for my one mile sprint.  About 1/4 of a mile into it a big ol’ front loader pulled out about 1/4 mile ahead of me.   OH HELL… a target!!!  It was on and I chased that sucker down and passed him… then, being the genius that I am, I realized that I had to keep hammering or he would overtake me.   Bouncing an wobbling along the road as he was did not give me a warm fuzzy about my odds of him not running me over should he overtake me.  Thus, the second best time.  Way more effort than I wanted/should have put into it, but it broke up the repetition of this ride.  I finished up half way decent with no major vehicle incidents, so another one in the plus column.

:D

Nice breezy day for a maintenance roll

I might have overdressed just little, but better than not enough. Caught up with my friend Arnold (mid 70s) on the outbound and road along and chatted with him for a ways. After a bit he claimed he had to take it easy and urged me to go on about my ride. I picked it up a little and left him to ride the hills at his pace knowing that’s what he wanted. It just messes with you when you to have someone else along when you have a plan. I figure I was messing with his plan. Anyway, I tried not to get too stupid and ruin my own ride by overdoing it especially when I knew I would have a headwind to contend with on the way back. Arnold was just finishing packing up when I got back to the sign in point so I stopped an chatted a bit more with him before rolling out the last three miles.
