Squirrel kind of day

It seems there are certain "critter days". One day it will be frogs or toads. The next crows, then deer, then Turkey. Today was squirrels. The little boogers were everywhere this morning. One or two had me a little concerned about just which way they might dart at the last second. They may not be huge, but I’m pretty sure they’d raise hell if they were to get caught in my front spokes. At any rate, I felt fairly decent today but was still right in the same range I’ve been in lately.   I’m nearly 300 miles down from last year and off the pace by 3/10ths mph.   Really need to pick it up if I want to reach last years times.

Racing butterflies

…and they were winning. At least up hill they were. Close to 80° so they had plenty of lift over the pavement and with a 10mph breeze they were flitting right along. Me? Flitting would not be the term for me. I was slogging it for the whole ride. Not going to dwell on it too much. I still made it back in one piece.

Morning at the lake.

I couldn’t bring myself to ride the hills on Ft. Gordon today and headed to the lake once again.  There’s still more than enough climbing, but they are a little less "in your face" kind of hills and more long not too steep grades.  I got moving just about the right time to beat the heat. Good solid ride today.   No wind to speak of and the traffic was light.  There was a tree that had fall and the end was sticking out onto the shoulder where most cyclists would be riding.  I went around.  It is bad enough to have to pull out into the traffic, but this was in an especially back place on the inside of a turn where cars might not see a rider.  On the way home I went that direction and stopped to move the tree and debris out of the way.   I would be feeling pretty bad to get home and hear about someone getting wiped out because of it.

P90X-89 Cardio + AbX

Well, this is pretty much the last workout in this round of P90X… Syndie and I have taken to altering the Recovery / Ab week.  So again, not per the schedule, but a good combination workout.   Jim has been joining us this week as well and considering he hasn’t been through the routine he’s been a trooper.   This is not easy stuff if you make half an attempt to "bring it" and he did.   Syndie brought it as usual.  It was her idea to add the AbX to the Cardio and I think it worked well.  I would say this round is a success overall.  We pretty much got through without missing too many days.  I think we both made some improvements on a few things from previous rounds.   Again, the big success, hanging in there and helping each other stay on track.   I know it wasn’t easy for you, so thanks again Syndie!

Road march

For the first couple miles I felt kind of "not with it" but once I got wound/warmed up I was able to settle in a bit.. There were a bunch of solders doing a ruck march on the road today. Got a couple cheers as I rode by. Guess they must’ve been bikers. Heheh. No one part of the ride was great, but most of it went OK which worked out as a decent ride overall.

P90X-87 Kenpo

Hooked up with Syndie and Jim this morning for some air flailing.  They call it Kenpo…   Poor Jim… he’s so tall and the ceiling in their basement is pretty low, so it’s a little dicey for some of the moves for him.   He adjusted though.   We’re kind of hoping he’ll start up the next round with us in a couple weeks.   It might be a little tough due to only one set of weights and one set of bands between them, but if he could/can/will, I know it will be good for him.  We’ll have to cypher on that one.

A flat and a sting

Just not my morning. Got up, put myself together to go ride the fort before work, went to load the bike up, and it had a rear flat. Crap. I found a piece of wire that comes from steel belted tires sticking into the tire. Very thin, but stiff. Evidently I picked it up on Sunday’s ride, but it didn’t create enough of a leak for it to flat before the ride was done. Anyway, replaced the tube and headed in for my ride. Nothing spectacular about the ride itself. About two miles from the end of the ride some sort of bee/wasp flew into my ear and stung me. Fortunately he didn’t go into the ear canal but I still had to get it out. Managed it without wiping out or even stopping. Not exactly something that enhances a ride. Finished up OK.
