Sunny Sunday Chase

I was "supposed to" take it easy today. I was "going to" take it easy today. When I got to the sign in point I ran into a guy from work who was riding a combination of the Ft Gordon loops until he got 100 miles out of of it. HOLY CRAP! Not for me. He pulled out for another loop about 5 minutes before me. I caught him 12 miles later where I had a 19.5 avg. We rode together back to the sign in point… about 10 more miles. The wind was not our friend and that average took it in the nose. Apart from the wind it was a great day for a ride.

Outer loop again

Although I said Monday’s version of this ride wasn’t bad, it still wasn’t satisfying. As I said, I seemed to struggle in some places Monday. Wind, tired, both? Not sure. Still, I thought I should have done better. So, being the clock chaser that I am, I went after it again today. Today’s weather was great. About 80° but heavy overcast and practically nil for a breeze. Overall this ride came out much better. There were a few segments that I hadn’t broke into my top 10 times since 2014… Today I hit a few of them and one I got my second best time ever. So, overall this was a significantly improved ride from Monday. I just hope I can keep it up.

Better ride

Felt much better today. Always the 10-15 mph breeze, but what can ya do? I started at the sign in point today rather than ride to it… stop… sign in… make my ride… sign out… finish my ride. When I finished today there some other riders getting ready to head out. All younger military from the looks of it and one of them even bragged another guy up for being a "pro rider". Cat 2. I said "Oh that’s cool… I’m cat slow." When I checked the ride on Strava afterwards and looked for "flybys" I found all these guys. Completely smoked them, they had averages of 15 mph… Hell I did that on my last ride and I felt like I was going to barf. :D Made me feel good anyway.

Too soon after lunch

I got called in @ O’dark thirty to work which meant I could leave right after lunch today. Even though I ate my lunch a little early I guess I still started the ride too soon after. It was hot as well, so those two thing combined to leave me not feeling that well after the first 5 miles or so. After that, any time I tried to put a push on, I felt nauseous and would have to back off. I was fine as long as I didn’t push it. A also doused myself with water to stay cooled off. The subsequent average was pretty crappy though. I guess these happen once in a while.

Forgetful Friday

Man!  I was so mad when I realized I had left my Garmin sitting at home.  (That would be the Garmin Syndie gifted me).   I wasn’t too keen that I’d also left my coffee.   Anyway, I used the Strava app on the phone to record the ride.   I wasn’t a horrible ride,  though not that great either with only one segment standing out at all.   At least I didn’t have any traffic challenges today.

Reall nice breezy day

Long day on the job and I wasn’t feeling all that excited to go get beat up by the wind today, but other than the wind it was really nice out. Not a record by any stretch, but still a good workout.   I recorded a max HR of 253 per the Garmin….  LOL.. I guess I hadn’t sweat enough yet to make the contacts register properly.   After a couple miles it straightened itself out.   Thanking Syndie again that I even have this to give me the output.

Getting toasty out there.

I managed to take my bike to work today and get out in some of the first real heat we’ve had.   The recorded temperature was 90°.   That’s an in the shade reading, so on the blacktop it’s always a bit more.   True to form the "2mph wind" that was forecast was quite a bit more noticeably more.   It just forces me to change my strategy a little, but I misjudged the heat I think.  When I changed direction and had the wind aiding me a little is when I figured out I was overheated.  I doused myself with some water from my bottle and that helped make me feel better, but not so  much I could up the pace.  It just allowed me to maintain what I had going and I had to monitor myself for the rest of the ride.   Sadly, there has been a new stop sign added to the route.  It is almost to the point where I might just start driving to the sign in point and start from there, but I’m not too keen on what I have for options to keep the ride around the same length.   I’ll have to see how it goes.

Now for the best part.   So you may recall me moaning a bit that my Garmin305  died a week or so back. and that had started using the Strava app to record my rides.  Very cumbersome and because I don’t have a phone mount on my bike I can’t monitor as I’m riding.  Well, just a couple days ago I get a package in the mail from my workout pal Syndie, and what is inside?  Her old 305!!!   She had replaced it with one that would allow her to use it for Triathlons and hadn’t used it since.  I was thrilled to no end, and was able to use it today to record the ride.   I did mess up and forget to sync the HR monitor, but that’s taken care of now.   Syndie really is a wonderful pal.  This was the nicest surprise I have gotten in a long long time.  Thank you Syndie.

I got quite a bit accomplished, but it was still not a great day at work.  It was a nice day for a ride and it helped to at least put a good finish on the day.  I was pretty spent by the end.  A residual from not sleeping worth beans the last night and a mind numbing work day.

Cotton ball clouds and a super blue sky.

Really nice day.   So nice to see a pretty, clean, blue, sky.  Come summertim  it will be all washed out looking.   Although I put up a good effort, I could not bring myself to "kill it"  or whatever it is I do that supposedly passes for killing it.   It just wasn’t in me and I knew it.   If I had tried to push harderr I would have paid for it in the end… maybe even bonked.    used the Strava App to record the numbers… I feel robbed.
