Gorgeous day at the lake.

Such a nice day today. I fully expected to see more riders, but there were only two others. Maybe more will be out after church lets out. Same course as last week but today there was wind. Kind of oblique, yet sort of helpful on the outbound, and not bad enough to make me curse (much) on the return. It did hit me hard as I rode the last mile across the exposed dam, yet I still managed to post my second fastest time getting off the dam. I can’t complain about this ride. I felt decent and didn’t suffer any back twinges for which I am thankful.

Day two of morning rides

Still getting used to the routine of getting up and jumping into bike gear right away in the morning. The ride went fairly well today. Starting out from the sign out point I noticed a "not usual" sound coming from the back of the bike. I stopped again right there and found I had a spoke that had loosened up on me. Getting this tire trued was one of the reasons I took it to the shop a couple weeks back so I was a bit bummed that one had loosened up again. Fortunately it hadn’t come completely unscrewed so I was able to take my little multi bike tool and snug it back up. It held for the rest of the ride, but I’ll have to do a double check on it later. The rest of the ride was uneventful but the temperature was great.

Trying the early riding again.

First early ride on the year. The extended forecast looks good for the next week or so as far as temperatures are concerned, so, I figured it would be a good time to start in on the morning ride routine. Nothing to rave about as far as performance went, but it wasn’t the worst I’ve ridden either.   More times than not the mornings are relatively calm, so it’s a bit more of "me and the road" rather than "me and the road and the wind".   :)   Hopefully I’ll be able to stick with this schedule.

My bummer ride.

Pretty bummed out today. I had to put down my little dog yesterday. We had him for 17 years. Pretty old and all the care in the world wasn’t going to ease his age related issues. He was pretty broke down and suffering too. I felt horrible, but it was time. He was a great little dog. Not a yipper or barker. He didn’t bark unless there was something to really bark about.  Yet he still had personality and was friendly with everybody. Sigh… gonna miss the little guy.
:(
The location of the ride started at the dam of Lake Thurmond in Clarks Hill, SC. I had to go someplace besides Fort Gordon. Though there is a bit of traffic on this route it has nice shoulders and better pavement than the fort and it’s is a commonly ridden bike route, so bikes are not unfamiliar to the local drivers at least. Bumming as I was I tried to get into the ride as I needed to shift gears in my brain and get out of my funk. It helped. Due to unfortunate timing my turn around point had me actually stopping for over a minute for traffic.  Even so, I’m fairly pleased with the results of the ride as well. A couple of PBs done solo this time vs team effort. I’ll give my doggie credit.

Nice Sunny roll

Managed to get out for a ride today. I have a legit excuse as to why I could only ride 20 miles today, but truth be known, I was only going to ride 20 even without an excuse.  I really wasn’t feeling like it was in my legs today, so consciously didn’t try to kill it.   I didn’t fall asleep either, but just kept rolling along.    Even though every split / segment seemed sort of came out as middle of the road numbers, considering my effort level it turned out to be a decent result.  Feel good.

P90X-54 Plyo

Neither Syndie or I were sure we’d feel like doing this today.  It’s just another way to brutalize the legs.   :)   At least it builds up in a decent manner vs slams you into something ridiculous right out of the box.   Toward the end I was pretty much feeling it.   I had to laugh when Jim came downstairs to get something and started mirroring Syndie and stepped along right behind her in the football heros.   By this time I could barely get my knees up to do the move.  Totally drenched by the end.  Again, we both got our monies worth out of the routine.   Good workout.

P90X-52 CardioX

It may be only 45 minutes, but you get out of it what you put into it.  Syndie and I both went after it good and hard today.   This was a good choice as it requires no weights whatsoever.   Some days the shoulders (joints) just need a break.

Beat down

Ass meet Mike. Mike, meet your ass. My ass? But it’s so damn skinny! How can something this skinny be so hard to drag around on a bike!? Needless to say this ride was tough for me today. Not exactly sure why.

Not optimum

You know it’s going to be a tough ride when the weather people tell you that the wind is 15 mph … not gusts… that’s the constant. My legs had already gotten a pretty good workout this morning with P90X legs n back, so I wasn’t sure how I’d hold up.   It was tough but I feel I still cranked a reasonable ride for me though I could have used a push here and there.  ;)    31 miles might be a bit ambitious at this stage of the game, but I now have a couple rides for this route on the year, so now I have a baseline for later on.

P90X-47 Legs Back AbX

Poor Syndie.  I could tell she wasn’t into it today.   Evidently allergies might be kicking in.   She’s a trooper though and hung in there for the whole shebang.   We worked hard, got sweaty and got tired legs.   Good solid work today.
